Bilingual Parent Educator
Position: Bilingual Parent Educator
Classification: Full-time, Exempt
Reports to: Project Coordinator
Location: Houston, TX
Position Description:
The Parent Educator will provide parent education in a home-based setting throughout Galveston County utilizing the SafeCare Augmented model. The purpose of this program is to prevent child abuse and neglect by decreasing the risk factors that contribute to child maltreatment and increasing the protective factors that prevent maltreatment. The Parent Educator will conduct intake, assessment, construct treatment plans, provide supportive counseling and teach parenting education. The Parent Educator will also work closely with the surrounding community providing advocacy and referral services.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree, preferably in human services or a related field.
- Fluent in Spanish. English required.
- Must have a SafeCare Augmented certification or be able to attain such certification within the first year of employment. Employment is contingent on acquisition of minimal certification/licensure.
- Must be able to work flexible hours which vary according to client needs.
- Minimum one (1) year of experience in a social services setting.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge of Social Work practices.
- Must have excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to maintain a professional, confidential work environment.
- Understand and model cultural sensitivity.
- Ability to work with culturally diverse populations and work force.
- Ability to work flexible hours which vary according to client needs.
- Ability to problem solve complex problems in family relationships.
- Knowledge of and/or willingness to learn about resources available to clients.
- Ability to develop comprehensive treatment plans utilizing a variety of agency and community resources.
- Ability to participate effectively in team staffing, supervision consultation, and case staffing with effective communication skills.
- Work cooperatively with other members of the program staff as well as other programs of DePelchin and other community resources.
- Must have knowledge of human behavior and the practice of crisis intervention.
- Must be able to relate to professionals from a variety of different disciplines and community agencies.
Work Conditions:
- Environment: Hybrid - Home Office, Community Settings
- Range of Schedule: Flexible, vary according to client needs. Evenings required and some Saturdays.
- Travel: Frequent, within the Galveston County (Reliable personal transportation and valid Texas driver's license and current Auto Insurance required)
