Position Description
The Mental Health Counselor in the FAYS (Family and Youth Success) Program will provide a range of social work and therapeutic services to children (ages 3-17) and their families which enable them to deal with problems identified.  The Mental Health Counselor will provide intakes, assessments, individual, and family counseling and group therapy in-home, in-office, and in-school based settings. 

This is a great opportunity for a recent graduate or individual who is interested in exploring a career in private practice, as the FAYS program teaches strong documentation skills and is committed to training all team members to feel confident in their clinical skills. The Mental Health Counselor in the FAYS program can receive free in-house clinical supervision for those pursuing their clinical license. The FAYS program has a strong team dynamic and believe in teaching and encourage learning and growth. 

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Provide intake and assessment activities that will assist clients and their family in determining which services are most appropriate for them in developing an individualized service /treatment plan.
  • Utilizing client and family input, develop a plan of service that selects and outlines an array of services and interventions from within DePelchin and the community that will address the needs formulated in the assessment process.
  • Assist clients with referrals to other community services identified in the plan of service and provide advocacy for individual clients and their families to receive entitlements or needed services.
  • Maintain current records, meeting all recording requirements of the agency.
  • Maintain monthly statistics and data needed for program accountability and billing for client services.

Required Qualifications

  • Master’s in social work or related human services field.
  • Fully licensed as an LMSW; or
  • Provisionally licensed as an LPC-Associate, or LMFT-Associate.
  • Passed the licensure examination to obtain LMSW, LMFT-Associate, or LPC-Associate. 
  • Employment is contingent upon full/provisional lcensure within 90 days of hire.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • One (1) year related experience.
  • Experience in case management, crisis intervention, or child welfare.
  • Fluent in Spanish. English required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Must have relevant knowledge/clinical skills.
  • Knowledge of Social Work practices.
  • Must have excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain a professional, confidential work environment.
  • Ability to problem solve complex problems in family relationships.
  • Ability to work with culturally diverse populations and work force.
  • Ability to work flexible hours which vary according to client needs.

Work Conditions:

  • Environment: Office, Community settings, Homes
  • Range of Schedule: Mon – Fri, 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., Occasional nights or weekends.
  • Travel: Occasional (Must have reliable personal transportation, valid Texas Driver License, and current Auto Insurance)
