Internship Overview

DePelchin Children’s Center is dedicated to strengthening the well-being of children and families. Our Family and Youth Success (FAYS) Program offers a clinical internship designed to provide graduate students with meaningful, hands-on experience while developing foundational clinical skills in a supportive learning environment.

Clinical interns maintain a small caseload and provide individual and family therapy services to youth and families. Because the program accepts a limited number of interns, students receive individualized clinical supervision, hands-on learning, and high-quality training in evidence-based practices.

Internship Responsibilities

Clinical interns will:

  • Provide individual and family therapy services under clinical supervision.
  • Maintain a small caseload appropriate to the intern’s level of experience and training.
  • Participate in real-time observation and supervision of therapy sessions.
  • Complete required clinical documentation accurately and timely.
  • Participate in training, supervision, case consultation, and other professional development activities.
  • Apply evidence-based and strengths-based approaches when working with youth and families.
  • Maintain professional, ethical, and confidential practices in accordance with agency and university requirements.

Training & Professional Development

Interns receive training and practical exposure to evidence-based practices, which may include:

  • Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT)
  • Motivational Interviewing (MI)
  • Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT)
  • Additional clinical modalities and approaches, as applicable

Internship Requirements

  • Unpaid clinical internship
  • Minimum 9-month commitment
  • Availability Monday through Friday during standard business hours
  • Ability to provide services primarily onsite and in person
  • Reliable transportation; interns are responsible for their own transportation
  • Professional liability insurance prior to the internship start date
  • Ability to meet applicable university or academic program internship requirements
  • Commitment to working professionally and compassionately with children, youth, and families

Supervision

Interns receive structured clinical supervision throughout the internship. Therapy sessions may be observed or shadowed in real time by a supervisor to support skill development, provide feedback, and promote high-quality clinical practice.

Pre-Internship & Onboarding Requirements

Selected interns must successfully complete all applicable onboarding requirements prior to beginning the internship, including:

  • Background check and fingerprinting
  • Drug screening
  • In-person orientation
  • Other required agency, program, or university documentation
